Helen is experienced and inspiring dance professional. She trained with leading musical theatre school CHB Performing Arts, and certified her practice with UKA Dance before going on to further her professional development with Creative Alliance (2012) and Trinity Laban (DDTAL). Helen has been teaching and performing for over a decade. Her practice is diverse and unique, with specialisms in dance-theatre, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, and Cuban salsa. A primary focus of Helen’s practice is her choreographic work, exploring dance as a ‘language’ and the ways in which dance, and stylised movement can push the boundaries of storytelling in theatre. Her developments have been supported by Arts Council England (2016, 2017, 2018) and The Big Lottery Fund (2013), with work showcased at The Southbank Centre (2014) The Birmingham Literature Festival (2014) The Birmingham Weekender (2017) and The Arena Theatre(2016, 2018). She is movement director for enterprising new theatre company Regional Voice.
Helen teaches, choreographs and shares her passion for dance all over the U.K. working both with new learners and seasoned professionals. To date, she has worked with the likes of Def Motion, The REP, The Birmingham Hippodrome & Vamos Cubana, Birmingham International Dance Festival, Southside Producers, The BBC, Stagecoach Theatre Arts, The Southbank Centre, Integra Lab, and The Arena Theatre. Helen is a published poet, visiting lecturer, and graduate of Philosophy, as well as a dance artist.
